Double G Toys Releases OTMFG Sets!

With Designer Con 2018 just around the bend, hitting Anaheim California November 16-18, it's almost a bit too fitting to bring up some interesting updates regarding one of the former members of October Toys.

Since it's dissolution in 2016, fans have been on the ready to see what was next out of the pair, now on individual adventures.  They have remained mainstays in the designer toy scene, but have largely remained absent from toy production with a brand of their own.  I'm sure I can't be the only one who believes it's just a matter of time before something in the vein October Toys returns.

Recently, George, one of the owners of October Toys, currently under Double G Toys re-released an array of classic OTMFG figures.  These figures were once released monthly, and only a couple at a time.  Over the course of a couple years, fans were amassing quite the collection, but now you can accomplish the same effect with a single mouse click.  But maybe not.  These sets are an amazing buy and a great way to pick up some awesome minifigures you may have missed years ago, but not all of these are master sets.  For example, there are gold and silver variants of the Dcon Vincent for sale on the Designer Con website, but I'm not insinuating these were ever meant to be master sets.  It's just easy to get excited and imagine they were.

These are perfect for those who missed the entire October Toy experience and want to get into what made them so special and popular with fans and collectors.  If you're starting out, this is the way to go, but it's not a bad idea for diehards to pick up some of the remaining stock as well, for extra trade and resale value.

The question remains - is this the sign of a return of October Toys?  I wouldn't quite jump to that conclusion quite yet, but I think this is an interesting move by Double G.  If you want me to gaze into my crystal ball, I would suggest this is a liquidation of sorts.  Whether these were leftovers from the webstore or remained in a personal collection, I would say these might be the last OTMFG minifigures October Toys has left to sell.  And maybe this is a liquidation to reduce unwanted clutter or inventory from storage, but maybe it's the rustling of something more.  I think, whether you feel this is one thing or the other, if these sets fly off the shelves, per se, George will take notice. Instant huge sales could dictate whether or not this was a necessary move for new product or a one-time buying bonanza.  This falling in line with a convention next week has my interest perked for the future, but who knows!

From the Grave! New OMFG Ooze Colorway! ...What?!?

Courtesy of 1 Shot Toys on Instagram
It's been a good 18 months since we've had to say our good-byes to October Toys.  That's almost as long as my last blog post, am I right?!  And since it's demise, George and Ayleen still have been a presence in the toy world.  George did a great deal of episodes of the YouTube show Toy Geeks Behind the Counter, and re-branded his work into Double G Toys, while Ayleen transitioned to Lego and toy brick coverage and conventions.  Despite the split and the subjects abandoned in the middle of it, mainly OMFG and anything similar to it, I often wondered when one of them would go back to doing something with keshi-inspired mini-figures.  And hard pressed for an answer, I personally thought it wasn't a matter of 'if', but 'when', as the brand's legacy still has an ocean of supporters over social media, even now, and for good reason.  I'll tell you, although it wasn't always the smoothest ship, what October Toys did with artist submissions for OMFG and released monthly with OTMFG was magical.

Now that I've set that up completely in the wrong fashion, let me try to salvage this somehow and get down to business.  October Toys, at least as it stands right now, is still deader than dead, and neither George or Ayleen have officially threw their hat back into the mini-figure circle, but for surpassing an Instagram goal, The Minifigure Militia is releasing this never before released OMFG set with a figure never before released with OMFG.

The Minifigure Militia, for those who don't know, is an Instagram account run by Berserker Studios.  They do a great job sharing daily images of stuff brand new, much loved, and anywhere in between.  They also were the minds behind the Pugnacious mini-figure that made it into OMFG Series 3.  So despite their out-of-the-blue mention here, you can now understand how it all makes sense now.  Well, almost, and I'll get to that very soon.

On Sunday, August 5th at 9PM EST, The Minifigure Militia will be releasing their exclusive Series 3 Oozarian Set of OMFG figures, along with a never included before Zombie Pheyden from the OTMFG monthly release line.  The price is 12 American clams plus the price of a box and a mailman to drive it to your house.  You can find the link to the web-store below.  It's a storm of all sorts of first-time-evers and first-in-a-long-whiles, that I almost forgot my Zombie Pheyden collection just became incomplete.  Hmmmpf!

This is great news and an absolutely shocking announcement, with a knockout product that I am sure has a lot of October Toys fans mouths watering, but how?  How does this set even exist?  Was it hanging around when the company disbanded?  Were they privately purchased in bulk, hidden away for a couple years, and now seeing the light of day?  Were they produced recently for this colorway alone?  And which one gave the thumbs up, if not both, and does this mean MFM is doing more post-October Toys stuff or is October Toys crawling out of the grave in some regard.  I have so many questions, and absolutely zero answers!  I'm dying here!  But I'll tell you this, if this set sells out instantly, people will take notice.  Whether it's their original creators or someone looking to relaunch the series, if there is still demand, they just might make a comeback in some regard.

Detective SpiderEarth Is Back On The Case! OTMFG Style!

Okay, before we dive head first into this tinfoil hat party, like only us Internet dwellers can do, let me preface this acknowledging how sensitive the phrase 'mysterious package' can be nowadays.   The media sure does love their tag lines and wordplay, but I hope I don't really have to reassure you, when I'm talking about a 'mysterious package' here, it's either related to a weird mini-figure unboxing or genitalia.  If Electric Monarchy is invited to the party, it may not be mutually exclusive.

That aside, my top two things I enjoy when it comes to keshi mini-figures are unboxing them, second, and unboxing them from mysterious packages, first, and luckily today I received one from October Toys and it had me giddy like a young school spider.

I first have to apologize.  I covered the released date for the new BrainWaves variants, both seen the picture here, and as I really enjoy the miniature and my almost complete set of it, but when this package arrived, it quickly cannibalized my attention.  I was looking forward to added previously convention exclusive miniatures to my - - - Wait a second, what is all this?!?!

That was my serious reaction.  Now, October Toys is really great about sending some extra goodies with your order.  There are usually trading cards, promotional material, and sometimes even an extra miniature.  Even with this special Joe Whiteford release, I figured the new trading card would be there, but there was a ton of extra stuff.  That's when I strapped the tin foil hat on.

This is not my first October Toys order.  I'm not sure I could give you a number, but I've tried hard not to miss one for the last few years I've been reintroduced to the keshi community.  I've received the extra goodies.  I have a collection of cards and posters.  Usually when I get the order, everything is pretty much as expected.  It's a common order that would you get from a million other stores online.  You get the product, the receipt, maybe some little goodies, and some promotional material tempting you to order again, but nothing really seems intentional.  Intentional, as in subtly trying to tell you something through puzzles and teasers.

Understand that when I opened this package, it wasn't just loose paper and minis.  Things were, at least they very much seemed, intentionally placed.  The first picture gives you a clear idea of what I mean.  Of course the Brainwaves and cards were there, and they certainly look awesome, but what is going on here with the other stuff?  It was a small black felt bag tied to a rather surprisingly high-quality key keychain.  This is what I believe the crux of this mystery and puzzle.

Of course, I'll concede to coincidence, but let me pass a few logic nuggets through you first.  Firstly, this key is not a cheap aluminum key with stickers on it.  It's a heavy duty, weathered, thing with either laser engravings or some other permanent customization of their logo and company name.  And that's what is so bizarre:  a heavy key advertising a toy company.  It's a great giveaway, but it must have been expensive to produce and to ship.  Doesn't seem very practical.  It's not a toy advertising a toy company or a key advertising a locksmith, but just as a said before.  And it was tied to this black bag. TIED!  Intentional, I'm telling you!

Never has anything ever came in with a personal knot, keeping certain items attached during the shipping process.  Really, why would there ever be a need to?  Unless it was - - - You know!  And the contents inside the mysterious black felt bag are the answer to the puzzle, but I sadly I think I'm grasping a straws further than before.  There are a couple things however.

There were three things inside the bag:  a sticker, a little round magnet, and a mini-figure.  More free goodies, sure, and I'm thankful if it was all coincidence, but I'm really not in that mind-space.  Upon closer inspection, the new Mini Gwin minifigure is not just a white variant, but more hollow and made with a hard plastic.  Unfortunately, I didn't picture it for you, but there is a hole through the bottom that reminds me of what Trash Pack does to save material, but it's certainly not PVC like other times.  It's a free miniature, so I'm not complaining about material and production, but making a mental note because I think it's meaningful.  The sticker is a shiny black sticker that plainly reads 'I Play With Toys' which had roots with Toy Break.  It's not something terribly strange or uncommon, but I think this too means something.  Finally, the last piece is this small button magnet.  This might sound crazy, but uncovering the meaning of this magnet is the answer we are all looking for.  Looking at this magnet, it has a blue-skinned monster character on it, and I do not recognize it.  I have no idea what it's referencing.  It's not from their toy lines, at least as far as I know, and it only resembles George in glasses alone, so it's not even a caricature of sorts either.  It could be a random fun present from a magnet/button sponsor, but it reads the October Toys website on the edge.

So, taking this all in, here is where my brain is.  This was all a teaser for a new toy line being announced soon.  The white Mini Gwin is a hard, hollow, plastic like a board game piece.  The sticker suggest this could be something you don't necessarily collect and display, but also play with.  The magnet, the answer to it all, I feel is a picture of a character from the new toy line, whoever it is.  October Toys has been working on an collectible, customizable, action figure game, and I think with the success of Battle Tribes this summer, I think they might be thinking it's time.

Crazy Uncle SpiderEarth thinks Dimentoids are on their way.

But what do you think?  Share your experiences and thoughts below!

OTMFG August '16 BrainWaves Lime Green & Purple Drops!

Welcome, K-Droppers (that name is so awful, it just may stay...) to Keshi Drop!  Maybe a few of your don't know, but my online moniker is SpiderEarth and I'm pretty much the worst toy blogger in the world.  Even still, I really do appreciate the recent burst of love of support over social media I've been receiving, as well as the boost of views all across the globe.  It's very humbling and always keeps things exciting, but let's not drone on about that all day.

Some quick release information today!  October Toys are going back to an old trend (one that I've loved) by having monthly OTMFG releases, usually on or around the 15th of the month.  We've seen new mini-figures and we've seen new color variants of old, but it was always exciting and fun to see what's next.

This month we see a slew of BrainWaves and OTMFG love, with the flagships of the release being the previously San Diego Comic Con exclusive purple and the new lime green variants.  This really hits the OTMFG spot for me, as I've always enjoyed George's work and not being able to reach a lot of these conventions has me more or less begging mules and praying this stuff hits online shops.  We're doubly lucky, not to get a chance to catch the purple now, but an attractive lime green one as well, not to be confused with their recently released slime green colorway.

The swag doesn't end there either.  Fans of BrainWaves creator, Joe Whiteford, will be excited to know a new art card will be send with these guys, and if you're just a fan of OTMFG in general, they will be releasing an enamel pin of their logo as well.  Tons of cool stuff, and all very much welcoming to see from October Toys, who have been having somewhat of a quiet year. I'm sure big news is on it's way though, so it's always a good idea to visit their site for more information or just to check up.

Lime Green BrainWaves, Purple BrainWaves, and OTMFG pin will be available at 12 pm (noon) PST on Monday August 15th. Mark your calendars!

Thanks again for dropping by, everyone!  Leave a comment, if you like.  Subscribe by entering your email there off to the side or just hit me up on Instagram.

OTMFG Purple BrainWaves Colorway at SDCC!

Hey guys!  Today I want to share a quick update about a series I always enjoy - OTMFG from October Toys.

If you don't know, San Diego Comic Con is July 20th-24th, and it's always the summer event for awesome swag.  At least when it comes to online blogs, it's the time to get all the news and teasers for new products and exclusives.

BrainWaves here, designed by Joe Whiteford and sculpted by George Gaspar, is the latest hot variant from the October Toys camp and you can add him to your collection by visiting their booth at the convention and shelling out a couple shekels.

Like past releases, if there are some left, expect to see the remainder on the October Toys web-store, so it'll be in your best interest to keep an eye on that, just in case.

April '16 OTMFG Slime Green BrainWaves + Kale Mini Gwin Drop!

Talk about a pleasant surprise!

I know I am a little late to the take on this one, but I don't even care.  One thing I really hoped would kick back into action this year was October Toys' monthly drops, and right now, on sale at their web-store, we have these two minty mini-figures.  Welcome back!

Making a return to the scene is the Mini Gwin and this solid green kale variant.  Now he's got his matching color to the classic Brocotal, and maybe fills that Angry Birds or parrot them in your collection.

The real star in this drop is that slimy green BrainWave!  Wow, look at this one!  You have to pick this guy up just to see how the colors and lights travel through his body in different angles, and you gotta' love how different the color appears in different body areas.  If you're hooked to taking mini-figure pictures outside, like I am during the summer, this guy sure does seem perfect for that.

And you know what, like always, these guys are a steal at two flippers a piece, so quick reading this and...

OTMFG BrainWaves Black Colorway Drop!

I've pointed out in previous updates that 2015 hasn't really been a year that brought a lot of love and attention to October Toys' OTMFG.  In years past, they would see a scheduled monthly drop that excited a lot of fans, but this year it just wasn't there in full-force.  Not to repeat myself or to harp it on much, it's great to see they are not forgetting it this holiday season and they are finishing year off with some keshi love.  And who else should we see, but the lone warrior of 2015 itself, BrainWaves.

Out now, this lump of coal variant of the hot new addition to the OTMFG line-up and the only known variant to the figure since the writing of this update.  So far, to my knowledge, there are only this black version and the flesh version, so if you are like me, getting this one might just complete your set.

But if you are a completionist like me sometimes, you might be interested to know they have a lot more than just this variant, if you are looking to start a collect off big or looking to wrap one up.  I'm talking about eight Zombie Pheyden colorways, two Brocotal colorways, the flesh Baby Deadbeet, and five elusive Mini Gwin variants that are all still available, so check them out!   It's all just a couple bucks each!

Alright guys, until next time!

October Toys OMFG + OTMFG October Releases!

This update really comes at the most fitting time.  It's as if they were reading my mind!  Of course that certainly not the case, but it's pretty perfect nevertheless.

You see, I covered Joe Whiteford's BrainWave artist proof variant, and made a passing mention how concerned I was with October Toys.  Maybe it was just my feelings and thoughts alone, because they have been doing a lot this year, but at least in the last couple months, it seemed like they were going through some retooling and refitting with their shows and their brands.  Some of their off-shoot video series have been condensed into their flagship Toy Break brand.  Their Skeleton Warriors Grimskull Kickstarter fell short of funding, and OTMFG hasn't seen that monthly love since June and then before that in March.

Some may say they've found a lot of hardship lately, but I feel some of it, if not more, can be attributed to earlier expansion.  I think I can say, after only watching their shows and buying their products for a couple years now, that they feel they can always do more.  They are hosting two annual conventions now, filming multiple weekly shows, and making a few different brands of toys, all on their own.  It's probably partial insanity, but once people find things that drive their passion and creativity, you'll best learn not to get in their way.  However, taking that all into account, I feel they may have been pulling a few things back because they've created way too much to do.

I'm sure fans will have different opinions, but I feel the biggest loss to these possible drawbacks were the monthly OTMG releases.  Granted, most often it was just variant and colorway releases, but still, I was very excited to see and pick-up the new minifigures every month.  It was something to look forward to, and seeing them role out consistently instilled the idea they were an healthy business, which in turn made me excited to see many more in the future.  Like I said before, 2015 hasn't been that fair to the OTMG brand, but maybe that's going to change very soon.

On Wednesday, October 21, at Noon PST, there will be a good, old-fashion, October Toys drop!  Releasing that day is the flesh version of the OTMFG newcomer BrainWaves, designed by Joe Whiteford, for a paltry two-spot, and with smartypants, OMFG Series 4 will be released in purple for ten!

This certainly puts a smile on my face and hopefully this is a sign of good things to come to round out this year, heading into the next.  For more info, check out October Toys' website and web-store below!

Joe Whiteford BrainWaves AP Variant Drop!

If you were following the OMFG Series 4 Kickstarter some time ago, then you certainly recognize this little creature.  Designed by Joe Whiteford, BrainWaves here had a flesh colorway version as a pledge bonus for the Kickstarter backers.

The trickiest thing however, even considered the newest member of the OTMFG cast, he hasn't shown up in any form other than those given to backers... well, except for now.

This variant is a brink pink 'artist proof' colorway and will hitting Joe's web-store Friday, October 16th, with a slew of extra goodies as well.  As teased on his Instagram, there will be stickers, buttons, and shirts as well for those who want to get fully decked out on the BrainWaves.

This is very cool and exciting to see a public release of BrainWaves, however I'm a little surprised not to see some other colorway sooner from October Toys.  Interest has been pretty high on this guy, primarily because he's so hard to find but also because he's a crazy, wild-looking, creature that fits very well into the OTMFG clan.  This weekend is certainly BrainWaves and Joe's time to shine, but it does make me wonder and worry whats been going on in the October Toys side of things.  Maybe I'll write a piece about it soon.

OTMFG Metal Baby Deadbeet Announcement!

From their latest episode of Toy Break, #359 to be exact, George and Ayleen of October Toys announced that their little vegetable character designed by Scott Tolleson will be seeing a casted metal variant.

Keep in mind, this isn't a metallic PVC or paint application, but indeed rock hard metal, so it'll be interesting to see how fans take to something like this.  I wonder how successful this guy will be outside the collectors completing the set.  I hope it does well, however I couldn't say if this shifts the appeal of this miniature out of the keshi world and into the pewter Dungeons and Dragons/Ral Partha figures we were slinging around at the comic book store.  We'll have to wait and see!

What do you guys think?  Leave me a message below!

OTMFG June Minifigure Drops!

October Toys is back into full-swing with today's release of new colorways in their OTMFG minifigure line.

This month, we see the addition of a translucent Ruby Zombie Pheyden and a solid Wild Cherry Mini Gwin, and they will certainly be nice-looking additions to your existing collections.

It's good to see a drop from October Toys again.  With how busy things have been with them lately, the last monthly drop was back in March, so today is a good day for loyal OTMFG fans.

You can grab this drop in just mere hours from the link below!

OTMFG March Colorway Drop!

Convention season is in full-swing, but that doesn't mean all the good stuff is there.

Dropping tomorrow at noon Pacific time, the cool kids at October Toys have a couple hot color variants to round out your expanding collection.

The beloved Mini Gwin gets to have his orange version, while the impressive Zombie Pheyden gets a variant called tarred.  I imagine, like others before it, this is a heat-sensitive color change variant between a flesh tone and the new black.  Pretty neat indeed.

I have a ton of OTMFG minifigures, and I've been following them pretty closely since I've returned to this toy thing a year plus back.  I enjoy them very much, but although I like these two, I wish they had more of a spring theme to then that usually went along with the monthly releases from October Toys.

Like many other minifigure drops, if you nap on the release time, you might wake up to find them all sold out.  So make sure you find yourself at the October Toys website, so you don't miss out.  The link is right below.

Mega Toy Haul 02/13/15!

Hey guys!  As you may know, this last weekend was a crazy one for toy drops and happenings, and today I got a good chunk of the spoils from it's events.  The picture above is a shelf that homes a lot of the newer stuff, but still, some of the other small random things I picked up are crowded on other shelves and unfortunately are not pictured at this time.  Moving on, let's take a look at what I got in the mail today and share some views on them.

Starting off with the tiny stuff not pictured, I grabbed all the of OTMFG releases for this month that were on sale during their 24 Hour Toy Break marathon.  That included the dark blue Mini Gwin, the clear purple Zombie Pheyden, and the light blue Toy Break mascot.  All of these minifigures are variants of others I already own.  Picking these up just expanded my already complete set of them.  I like all of them, but some criticism could go towards the Toy Break mascot for being top heavy and the Mini Gwin for being rather small.  Other than that, these are cool additions to the set and I'll likely continue snagging up these cheap guys as they come along.

Now to the stuff in the picture.  Finally, after some deliberation, I have a quasar, clear pink, set of OMFG series one.  I have the clear red and the maroon variants already, but these guys are just stellar.  I love the color, just as I figured I would.  I'm such a sucker for hot colors and glitter, and these guys stand as some of my favorites right now.

In front of them in the picture, are my first couple sets into ToyFinity's Mordles minifigure line.  These guys are pretty neat, all sharing some sort of trait together, while having little differences, they certainly feel like a species of alien creatures.  I picked up both the unpainted flesh set and the black detailed set, and I like them both equally.  They are a little on the small side, but for only a dollar each, you really can't go too wrong.

Finally, but certainly not least, I have the second series of Kinnikuman x Georgia Coffee promotional keshi figures, straight out of land of the rising sun.  I love how wacky and juxtaposed these figures are to their natural buff and wrestling poses, but there is one big difference with this new set that I never considered, covering it the first time.  The keshi in this set is noticeably smaller than before.  And, really, of course it should be - the set is twice as big, doubling up on room on the coffee can.  I guess I never really thought of what it meant when I was going to get two figures instead of one each bubble, but it makes perfect sense now.  The figures aren't small enough to not fit in scale, but compared to the first set, they look rather tiny.  But what's odd, is that they are actually more to scale to classic Kinnikuman figures this set than before.  I wonder why I didn't notice the first set was so large...  Hmmmm...  But even still, some of the minifigures in this set are just perfect and I'll certainly be looking out for series three, if it's ever a thing.

Anyway, that's what I got in the mail!  All great stuff!  And I'm sure more is on the way, so I'll be back soon with them to share!  Thanks for stopping by!

24 Hour Toy Break Drops!

All this weekend, the team over at October Toys is doing a marathon event filled with news, reviews, auctions, and special guest visits.  It's starts this Friday at 5pm PST and will end 5pm PST the next day.

There hasn't been much talk to what will be happening through the marathon, but it's always been a fun time, and for the first time, it appears I'll be able to hang out through most, if not all, of the event.  So, come chat with me during the event - just don't outbid me on auctions!

Some things were announced however on the latest Toy Break.  This month's OTMFG releases will be on sale a little earlier than usual and will be hitting their online store during the marathon.

The releases this month are a clear purple Zombie Pheyden and a dark blue Mini Gwin.  Another cool announcement is the light blue Toy Break Mascot character being released during the marathon as well.  October Toys announced that his variant of this figure is quite limited and if a light-blue character like interests you, you better dive into the events quick.

Finally, a pack of 10 flesh tone Mordles, both bare flesh and flesh with black details, from the fine people at Toyfinity, exclusive to October Toys, will also be released upon their webstore.

Even if you're not into keshi, all kinds of designer vinyl and art will be there, as well as hot, hot, news from some of the most talented artists in America.  If nothing else, come by and chat will all us collectors.
