From the Grave! New OMFG Ooze Colorway! ...What?!?

Courtesy of 1 Shot Toys on Instagram
It's been a good 18 months since we've had to say our good-byes to October Toys.  That's almost as long as my last blog post, am I right?!  And since it's demise, George and Ayleen still have been a presence in the toy world.  George did a great deal of episodes of the YouTube show Toy Geeks Behind the Counter, and re-branded his work into Double G Toys, while Ayleen transitioned to Lego and toy brick coverage and conventions.  Despite the split and the subjects abandoned in the middle of it, mainly OMFG and anything similar to it, I often wondered when one of them would go back to doing something with keshi-inspired mini-figures.  And hard pressed for an answer, I personally thought it wasn't a matter of 'if', but 'when', as the brand's legacy still has an ocean of supporters over social media, even now, and for good reason.  I'll tell you, although it wasn't always the smoothest ship, what October Toys did with artist submissions for OMFG and released monthly with OTMFG was magical.

Now that I've set that up completely in the wrong fashion, let me try to salvage this somehow and get down to business.  October Toys, at least as it stands right now, is still deader than dead, and neither George or Ayleen have officially threw their hat back into the mini-figure circle, but for surpassing an Instagram goal, The Minifigure Militia is releasing this never before released OMFG set with a figure never before released with OMFG.

The Minifigure Militia, for those who don't know, is an Instagram account run by Berserker Studios.  They do a great job sharing daily images of stuff brand new, much loved, and anywhere in between.  They also were the minds behind the Pugnacious mini-figure that made it into OMFG Series 3.  So despite their out-of-the-blue mention here, you can now understand how it all makes sense now.  Well, almost, and I'll get to that very soon.

On Sunday, August 5th at 9PM EST, The Minifigure Militia will be releasing their exclusive Series 3 Oozarian Set of OMFG figures, along with a never included before Zombie Pheyden from the OTMFG monthly release line.  The price is 12 American clams plus the price of a box and a mailman to drive it to your house.  You can find the link to the web-store below.  It's a storm of all sorts of first-time-evers and first-in-a-long-whiles, that I almost forgot my Zombie Pheyden collection just became incomplete.  Hmmmpf!

This is great news and an absolutely shocking announcement, with a knockout product that I am sure has a lot of October Toys fans mouths watering, but how?  How does this set even exist?  Was it hanging around when the company disbanded?  Were they privately purchased in bulk, hidden away for a couple years, and now seeing the light of day?  Were they produced recently for this colorway alone?  And which one gave the thumbs up, if not both, and does this mean MFM is doing more post-October Toys stuff or is October Toys crawling out of the grave in some regard.  I have so many questions, and absolutely zero answers!  I'm dying here!  But I'll tell you this, if this set sells out instantly, people will take notice.  Whether it's their original creators or someone looking to relaunch the series, if there is still demand, they just might make a comeback in some regard.

OMFG Glow In The Dark Series 4 Kickstarter is LIVE!

I had previously proclaimed some big news would be coming from the October Toys' camp sometime soon, but this bit of news was something I didn't predict.  I mean, of course I still stand behind the conspiracy theory I created some weeks ago, but like any good nut job, maybe it's next time.  Just gimme' a little more time!

From their video, October Toys explains how often they get the request to do Glow In The Dark variants and the latest series of OMFG mini-figures were no exception, but a weird thought came over me when I heard that.  I thought Series 4 already had a GID variant, but when I sat down with the thought for a second longer, I was pleasantly reminded that it must have slipped my mind.

So the campaign to bring this set to the land of bright green is live on Kickstarter right now, and already, as of writing this now, the campaign has some really interesting details I want to share.

Firstly, even at ground zero here, funds are looking about half complete already.  That's a really great sign out of the gate to see if this project can has enough interest to get fully funded, and where Kickstarter hasn't showed a lot of love towards mini-figures lately, this one looks to be headed in the right direction.

Secondly, this has some exclusivity that collectors should keep in mind.  Treat this campaign as your opportunity to preorder this set now, because they are only producing quantities to fulfill backers.  There won't be any hitting a web-store anytime in the future.  This is it - preorder now or miss out.

A pretty big tangent off of that is the inclusion of the OTMFG BrainWaves mini-figure.  He's shaping up to be a bonus figure to accompany the set, seemingly free of charge, but I am also assuming it's not safe to risk not grabbing this variant now.  The Glow In The Dark BrainWaves could also be limited and exclusive to this campaign, so that complete set you have right now will no longer be complete if you are a day late or a dollar short.

As of right now, there is still about twenty days to jump on and preorder this set, and for six limited edition glowing variants, I'm not sure there is a better deal out there either for twelve bucks.  Follow the link below and consider grabbing this set while you still can.

OMFG Series Four Siren Artist Proof Drop!

Welcome back, everyone!

Long time readers of the blog will know that I'm a die-hard fan of the October Toys brand and OMFG in particular.  Maybe even some will remember my review of the latest set that came out earlier this year.  If so, then you'll understand why this drop excites me so much.

Not only in the review, but in the Toy Break contest that banked me a couple awesome sets of Series Four, I sung the Siren's praises.  Not only did I feel this minifigure was the one to get out of Series Four, but I feel this is the one to get out of all four sets.  The overall character design and sculpture was one point, and when you're talking about working within the restrictions of keshi, this one does a really fine job.

Available this very moment on the artist's online store is the hot pink Artist Proof colorway of the Siren that was featured in Series Four of OMFG.  For only five wiggle-wags you'll net one of these ocean divas for you own, but you won't be getting just her alone.  Along with her, you'll be getting a blue collective case and a signed poster from Corey Webb as well.

Pretty rocking deal if you ask me, so check it out!  Follow the link below!

October Toys OMFG + OTMFG October Releases!

This update really comes at the most fitting time.  It's as if they were reading my mind!  Of course that certainly not the case, but it's pretty perfect nevertheless.

You see, I covered Joe Whiteford's BrainWave artist proof variant, and made a passing mention how concerned I was with October Toys.  Maybe it was just my feelings and thoughts alone, because they have been doing a lot this year, but at least in the last couple months, it seemed like they were going through some retooling and refitting with their shows and their brands.  Some of their off-shoot video series have been condensed into their flagship Toy Break brand.  Their Skeleton Warriors Grimskull Kickstarter fell short of funding, and OTMFG hasn't seen that monthly love since June and then before that in March.

Some may say they've found a lot of hardship lately, but I feel some of it, if not more, can be attributed to earlier expansion.  I think I can say, after only watching their shows and buying their products for a couple years now, that they feel they can always do more.  They are hosting two annual conventions now, filming multiple weekly shows, and making a few different brands of toys, all on their own.  It's probably partial insanity, but once people find things that drive their passion and creativity, you'll best learn not to get in their way.  However, taking that all into account, I feel they may have been pulling a few things back because they've created way too much to do.

I'm sure fans will have different opinions, but I feel the biggest loss to these possible drawbacks were the monthly OTMG releases.  Granted, most often it was just variant and colorway releases, but still, I was very excited to see and pick-up the new minifigures every month.  It was something to look forward to, and seeing them role out consistently instilled the idea they were an healthy business, which in turn made me excited to see many more in the future.  Like I said before, 2015 hasn't been that fair to the OTMG brand, but maybe that's going to change very soon.

On Wednesday, October 21, at Noon PST, there will be a good, old-fashion, October Toys drop!  Releasing that day is the flesh version of the OTMFG newcomer BrainWaves, designed by Joe Whiteford, for a paltry two-spot, and with smartypants, OMFG Series 4 will be released in purple for ten!

This certainly puts a smile on my face and hopefully this is a sign of good things to come to round out this year, heading into the next.  For more info, check out October Toys' website and web-store below!

OMFG Series 4 LRG Green Review!

Today I got a chance to go over the new series of OMFG mini-figures from October Toys.

Those last few who don't know, October Toys is an independent toy company that brings the creativity and artistic skill of their community together in the form of little plastic figures.  Series four here is the forth time they released mini-figures designed and voted on by their fans.

This particular slime green set is an exclusive to the LRG web-store, but as you can see it's a perfect match for those who grew up enjoying Monster In My Pocket.  The slime, of course, was not included.  I added that for extra effect, just in case you didn't believe me how awesome they looked.

This series is quite the diverse cast, so at least right now, it's hard to express how I feel about them together.  There are figures in this set that look the best OMFG has looked ever, with the Haunted Tree House being something that immediately grabs your attention with some wow factor.  Yet, figures like him are easily identifiable as multi-part mini-figures, and depending on how much that matters to you, it could land some negatives in the design aspect.

The one figure I thought would fall victim the most to this, actually turned out to be the highlight in this set, in my opinion.  Poorly pictured on the side in my picture is the Siren.  She's a large mermaid like creature, and stupidly, I hid the ship she is holding in her hand.  With the ship, she has a lot of tiny detail, from the crown and a hanging bracelet, all of which remains single molded.  Most legs and arms of the other figures are clearly separated at birth, but not Siren's.  Siren is almost completely single-mold with the only exception being the deck of her tiny ship.  Taking this into account, she's almost in every way a perfect throwback to the retro MIMP toy line, from the monstrous theme, the nearly single-mold design, and the final touch of a vibrant neon color.  A very big thumbs up from Keshi Drop, for sure!

But that's not taking away from the rest in the series as well!  Discover them for yourself and find your favorite too!  You can find the flesh tone version at the October Toys web-store and this green variant at LittleRubberGuys.  Both links are below!

LRG-Exclusive Green OMFG Series Four!

If you saw the release of October Toys' OMFG Series Four, but didn't really care to have them in boring old flesh tone and wanted them in something more akin to Monster In My Pocket color, you're in luck!

Dropped last evening, LRG-Exclusive neon green of the new series hit their web-store, and honestly, so far, this set might just be the one to get.
OMFG does take their anagram name from MUSCLE, but one could argue the similarities might end there.  From then on, it might be closer to the monstrous neon MIMP, and this slime colorway emphasizes that just that much more.

Grab this set, while you can, at the link below, and while you are there, check out the matching neon green OMFG sets of yesteryear they have for sale too!

OMFG Series Four Drop!

We have all been waiting for the last bit of news from October Toys, on their OMFG Series Four launch, and without much warning, the long-anticipated new set hit their store earlier today.

Released in a classic flesh tone, this five figure set includes the top community-voted and community-made designs, all wrapped in a MIMP and/or MUSCLE throwback theme.

These guys are absolutely awesome and the OMFG community involvement, although not flawless, is worthy of praise and something very special for people dabbling into character design.  Who knows maybe I'll submit a design on of these times too!

Pick up these guys at the links below!
