Space-Themed Bit Figs Invade Pockets This Spring!

Long time fictional bogeymen of the blog and independent toy pioneers, Onell Design, have not missed a beat when it comes to keeping things new and interesting with their Bit Figs mini-figure line.  Animals have reached a Series 3 and a good number of limited edition one-offs remain available for those who are looking to extend their Glyos-compatible collections.  In the coming days, they are looking to expand once more.

Returning to their roots, Onell is introducing their Space Big Figs, inspired from original characters from their Glyos figure line.  This is certainly an interesting and a celebratory time for Onell, Bit Figs, and their collectors.  Not only have these figs seen a revitalization in the vending machine market, but now is the moment the training wheels come off.  This set, at least the three teased to be a part of the set, are original designs, not chibi ninjas or animals that any kid can immediately relate to, and I'm excited to see where this path leads for them.  And it doesn't just go one way either.  Glyos collectors will now have their bridge into Bit Figs and mini-figures, as a whole, so it seems everyone wins.

Since my time in the independent toy scene, Glyos stuff and myself have always had a weird connection.  It felt close to something I would have liked, but because they were multi-parted figures, intended to be swapped and customized, even though made from the same general material modern keshi-style mini-figures were being produced with, I kept my distance.  That was until Bit Figs came around and I bought up a good deal.  I had ordered the bronze sets of animals and ninja, and found a vending machine locally to sacrifice my pocket change to, however neither set really sunk their teeth into me.  Maybe now it can.  Maybe rekindling that interest I had when I first discovered Glyos, with those times I was back and forth to whether or not I was going to dive in.  Maybe now I can confidently say I'm interested in Glyos now.

DRWG, AshMadeThis, and Onell Design Readying For DCON!

Bit Figs by Onell Design

Someone most likely said something to the effect of 'don't jump to conclusions' in some important time in history.  It wasn't me.  I was just a couple ago whining and complaining how there is little keshi news heading towards Designer Con, and now I am here with some cool updates on releases and exclusives.

The first appears to be a new colorway for everyone's pixelated vending machine mini-figures, Bit Figs.  I haven't actually made this mention before, but it was a pleasant surprise to see the ninja set of Bit Figs arrive at my local grocery store's vending machine recently.  It's safe to say, every visit or so, I've lost a couple bucks, increasing my bit army.  Now it appears a translucent green option is in the works coming from Onell Design, heading for Designer Con.  This is very cool, as I have yet to see a translucent Bit Fig IRL, and I'm curious to how sunlight reacts to it, outside this spoiler picture above.

Our second batch of news is almost a double-header, with two pieces coming the way of production pro and giant, Tru:Tek.

The first, in green, is a collaboration with DRWG called M.A.Y.O.R., named after everyone's favorite Final Fight character, Haggar.

In the muscle-tone is the Kabuki Kasa Obake collaboration with AshMadeThis I covered briefly before, but these are both new colorways coming exclusive to the convention.

This is all pretty exciting stuff, and I hope in the coming days, just as Designer Con is drawing ever closer, we get a little bit more just to expand the overall keshi consciousness across the whole convention!

Onell Design's Bit Figs Trophy Set Review!

Welcome back, everyone!  It's apparently a rapid round of reviews and whatnot.  I really don't mind and I hope you don't either.  Today we received some more mail, maybe not as mysterious and puzzling as October Toys' recent package, but let's check it out all the same.  If you haven't already read up about it, scroll down to the article about October Toys' recent release.  It was very bizarre and I enjoyed it a lot.  Now let's move on and look at some Bit Figs from Onell Design.

The first thing you may notice is the golden bronze all these figures have.  This is the limited edition trophy set, and I'm lucky to have ordered a set while I could because it now sold out.  I've said it a million times, whether it's for limited editions or just normal drops, you gotta' be right there with your Paypal ready.  It's no rarity that a variant will drop and will completely sell out forever between the very moment it goes live to only a couple days later.  The Candy Bolton variant of Bukk*ke sold within moments that night.  The first Goliath was gone in just hours, and this trophy set was bought up in a couple days.  The only way you can take a passive approach to all this is that if you fund the project at it's very roots with Kickstarter for example, but only if one's available.  However, hopefully you were able to get a set if you wanted one, otherwise there are plenty of regular sets still available that come with rare figures as well.

Moving on to the review of the set particularly, you know there's something fundamentally wrong with me if the first thing I do with a plastic baggie full of new Bit Figs is to take a good whiff.  Why we have to hit up that first of the senses is beyond me, but that certain kind of PVC always smells so good to me.  Hits the right spot.  Some people smell their wine or beer.  Some even candles and spices.  Heck, you may even see some take a whiff off particular plant products.  Now, imagine this jerk doing the same with baggie full of mini-figures.  Admit it: it's not that strange.

Out of the packaging, these mini-figures are solid PVC with about an inch or more of height.  I would suggest they scale really well with ToyFinity's Mordles, but are a bit small and short for most anything else.  I would suppose this was with vending machine capsules in mind.  After all, that's a huge inspiration of this line and the only other place to find these besides the Culture Pirate web-store.  It's something to certainly keep in mind, despite how much I really wanted these guys to reach up another inch or so.

Looking into the designs of both the animal set and the ninja set included there's some real math in their depth and shape.  I think those who just see the video game pixel graphic style and suggest it was automatically calculated and made my a program are off on the wrong foot.  I'm willing to bet there is a dry erase board somewhere in Bit Fit Headquarters with just numbers written all over it.  Now I do believe they were sculpted and prototyped through 3D printing, the end result is a lot more cleaner.

Bit Figs are impressive for what they are designed to accommodate.  Some would to gripe about the size, but conflicting thoughts come to mind.  They would never fit in vending machine capsules, for starters, and if I plunked down a few coins for one of these guys out of a machine, I would give it nearly perfect remarks.  Compared to other things you find in machines, these guys blow them out of the water, and that's including the tiny little wrestler bootlegs that got me back into the keshi community a few years ago.

From one day to the next, it's like night and day.  From absolute garbage Crazy Bones to some good quality Bit Figs, it couldn't be more apparent who cares about their product and it really couldn't be more obvious that it's Onell.

MWOTR Evolution Goliath Review!

So, the time has come!  I have received the sold-out metallic green Goliath minifigure from the Mystical Warriors of the Ring line today in the mail.  I have it in my hands.  I can smell it with my nose.  So let's do this already and review it, no holds barred!

First off, the color looks great.  It's a very natural and fitting choice for this character, however I never really felt the standard flesh tone took away from the figure.  I was curious and somewhat suspicious to see it launch in this green, but I think it works well.

The details are nice, but maybe a bit too safe in some areas.  Maybe this can lend itself to the Glyos compatibly, because I'd love to see a Goliath head and face that tells us what sort of character this guy is.  Is he cruel or kind?  He's certainly huge, and really that's all he conveys for me.  I do really like his elbow pads, however, which I have forgotten to show, but the gator logo on them is a pretty awesome touch.

He feels really nice in my hands.  There's quite a lot of weight to this guy and even pieces like his tail don't feel like an afterthought.  As a complete figure, he's pretty chunky and spiky, and that's never a bad thing.  Sure, he'd never fit in a gumball capsule, but maybe in some alternate world, you could imagine this guy part of a "collect and built him yourself" set, which thinking now, may be a pretty neat idea.

I know how weird it's going to sound now that I gripe about it's lack of articulation, but don't lose me quite yet.  Sure, I would have loved one hunk of gator, but a good alternative to that, would be a hunk of gator in a sweet pose.  Goliath is full of all sorts of articulation:  head/neck, shoulder, wrists, tail, and legs, but I think it's missing some elbow love.  Bending this guy around, you get a few neat and interesting poses, except when you want this guy to grapple another character of the MWOTR line.  He sort of Frankensteins forward, and I think an elbow cut before or after the elbow pad would have helped him out with that, just that much more, but this sort of stuff should really be the last thing I complain about.

And finally the smell - perfect.

Overall, MWOTR made a really decent figure, and what's strange is this guy is so adaptable, any gripes I had could be adjusted in future releases.  They could release a new, nasty, snarling, face, and some jointed elbows, and he could be a completely new figure.  That could be the most exciting part.  Will there be a hand with a steel chair in it?  Will there be arms with 80's arm tassels?  Who knows, but there's nothing stopping them.

With all the suspicion I gave it earlier, I think it changed my mind on most categories, at least the ones that matter the most.  And as inexpensive as they charged for this guy, he was vey much worth the review alone, but this guy certainly is in the collection, chilling out with the rest of his MWOTR brothers.

Noboto Neo Phase review!

Hi guys, I am Mebbles, a new contributor on here at The Keshi Drop and I have a little review of a crazy awesome figure I got from Onell Design recently! Being by Onell, of course it's Glyos compatible, and that means it has a lot of movable joints and parts can be replaced. I was sure amazed how much this guy can move about! It even has wrist articulation!

   Ok, ok, I'll try to keep my hype level down a tad, but it's always awesome to get a figure that you haven't got something from before. The color of the variant I got is a dazzling transparent green that is very pleasing to the eye. The height of the figure is pretty small as you can see, but I think it's a perfect size, especially for people that like keshi or keshi-like sizes. It comes with a different head that has another eye style and also some extra pieces to do stuff with (which I am unsure what to do with since I don't have any other Glyos thing to modify and I am happy on how this guy looks outside right outside the bag).

  All together, the figure comes with 19 parts, which amazes me how much of that is the highly articulated figure itself!
