OTMFG Purple BrainWaves Colorway at SDCC!

Hey guys!  Today I want to share a quick update about a series I always enjoy - OTMFG from October Toys.

If you don't know, San Diego Comic Con is July 20th-24th, and it's always the summer event for awesome swag.  At least when it comes to online blogs, it's the time to get all the news and teasers for new products and exclusives.

BrainWaves here, designed by Joe Whiteford and sculpted by George Gaspar, is the latest hot variant from the October Toys camp and you can add him to your collection by visiting their booth at the convention and shelling out a couple shekels.

Like past releases, if there are some left, expect to see the remainder on the October Toys web-store, so it'll be in your best interest to keep an eye on that, just in case.

Super7 Doesn't Listen to Stupid Internet Bloggers!

I don't know, guys...

You tell me.  Hit me up with a comment, an email, on Instagram, or wherever.  Am I really the only one in the world that thinks this was straight-up stupid last time?  I mocked it for being anti-consumer and a bloated hype circus, but honestly, I would not be surprised if I was the only one who felt this way.  Of course, I didn't experience the glory and heavenly embrace of Skeletor's Lair last go, but I think I understood the concept of it nevertheless.

Yeah, if you couldn't guess, I'm blabbing at the mouth again about Super7 and their second whack (verb and adjective) at their Masters of the Universe pop-up store coinciding with San Diego Comic Con.  And before I lose you and sound like an insane person, I want to state a couple things that I think will not be controversial at all.  I like Super7's products and I am all about the MOTUSCLE mini-figures.  When it comes to the keshi world, of course it's never necessary, but they get a big warm Keshi Drop hug, and the offerings they have teased this year are no different.  The multi-color trash can series looks very fun and I'm excited to hear about more, because I have gut feeling there are more to come.

The hill I die on is the way customers and fans of their work and products have to get these into their collections.  Not even exclusive to this, just an extra nonsense song and dance between the hand with money and the artist with the toys is just no good in my opinion.  Maybe there's something about SDCC that I don't understand and this is a way to circumvent some sort of issue with selling this product, but a part of me thinks this is just a marketing strategy to artificially inflate the value of these products, because to own these it was more than just the exchange of cash.  This bums me out.

Last time, I jokingly equated Skeletor's Lair to a death trap challenge from the Saw movie series, testing the pain and moral limitations of their customers for their mini-figures.  I don't think I really stand by that same comparison anymore, and really I'm not sure I readily have something to compare it too.  Maybe a shady business strategy from Wall Street or something, but that's it.  Where my brain goes with this is that by doing all this it's creating more imaginary value in MOTUSCLE and I feel that value is unnecessary and harmful to no one but collectors.

Follow me for a second.  It's looking like the new rainbow can series is going to be sold for $20 USD at the pop-up store, and it would hold only that price if it was sitting on a shelf for anyone walking through the doors.  Okay, a quick pause, it would hold that original value of that price if they proved they were a quality product as well.  I don't want to just leave that point there that anything holds their price in value regardless of price.  But back to the original point, they aren't just that price entirely.  You have to go to the convention and get the coin.  The coin is cool, but it only goes to people who can make it to the convention and got to their booth.  Then customers with coins have to leave the convention and travel to the pop-up stores during certain times of certain days.  What you'd pay a third party to do this for you from afar is not something I can accurately guess, but it's a fabricated value that didn't have to be there in the first place.  Imagine you were buying a Keshi Drop t-shirt from the hypothetical web-store I don't have.  The shirt cost is $20 and the shipping to you adds an extra $7.  That's nothing too uncommon, but maybe I had a few limited edition ones that my dog slept on.  Nothing really makes them any better than others.  I especially didn't put any extra effort in them, but the ones with dog fur are $10 more for reasons.  Some customers may want the authentic Keshi drop experience only stinky dog fur can create, but after a wash that $30 shirt is exactly like all the regular priced ones.  That's my point with Skeletor's Lair.  Whatever added value or hype this all creates for the rainbow MOTUSCLEs and all the other products they will sell is great for them, it's a value that's going to dissolve in a wash.  This strategy can only blowout the first wave and bloat out the secondary market until more is manufactured.  Then when things aren't so rare or hard to get and people can buy these online and awesome toy stores, all that added value goes away.  Then a $20 dollar set is just worth $20, and the people who jumped on it early unnecessarily lost out who knows what when Super7 never had to do it to begin with.

Again, I don't know, guys.  Please let me know.  I really want to hear from you, even if you disagree.  But if nothing else, thanks for stopping by and hearing my nonsense!

MWOTR's Barker The Referee Says Hi To The Physical World!

A couple weeks ago, we saw a teaser picture of the referee Mystical Warriors of the Ring has been working on.  At that state, it was just rendered in a 3D program, but it gave us a pretty good look at the salty zebra they had in store, but now we are getting a clearer image in speedy succession.  They are obviously not messing around.

For those new to the line, the mini-figure in question today is the one in the black material, and for maybe his first steps in this material realm, he's looking pretty damn good!  Of course, only they know what material he was made with, but if this is still part of the prototype process, it's likely either a resin pour or a 3D output, although I can't make out any print lines.

Either way, this is a great little dude.  Every ring certainly needs their referee, but I think this guy has the potential to stand on his own.  The single mold is a strong look, and although I did enjoy Goliath and Talos looks like he's going to be fun, it's just not the same.  And look at that classic pose, with one hand in the air and one pointing.  Some may not appreciate it, but that brings me right back to all the vintage Kinnikuman/MUSCLE and gumball wrestler knockoffs, and that's got me on board for whatever they have lined up for us next.

Grossed-Out 9: The Ooze Who Loved Me!

What an exciting few days it's been for fans of gross mini-figures.  I've been very happy with the news of the resurrection of The Trash Pack, but I know I might be Crazy Uncle SpiderEarth on that.  I know, for unexplained reasons and exceptions, I enjoy trashies and will likely enjoy The Grossery Gang more than I really should.  I know there are glaring contradictions to the keshi purist side of my reptile brain, like the paint, the soft material, and the scale, all of which I've blasted other toy lines for committing, but trashies get the pass.  I feel ya' and I have no idea why.  I've pretty much conceded the fact trashies are lucky to cover a couple nostalgic bases, by complete accident, and others unfairly reap the wrath of some stupid guy on the Internet.

I bring this up, because now I am wondering what if trashies checked off more purist boxes?  They still aren't, of course, but someone else is for them.  Electric Monarchy is, to be exact, with the introduction of this two inch, monochromatic, unpainted, resin -rubber, blob of a beast, called...  something I am sure Blogger will not allow me to spell out but is displayed in the picture above.  Sculpted by Macsorro, produced by Tru:Tek, and spurting out for sale all over the ArtWh*re web-store, this disgusting little thing has certainly won Keshi Drop's Golden 'Stay Right There And Let Me Get You A Towel' Award for Loud, Rude, and Exciting Art.

That's exactly how I feel about this piece too.  I admit, I feel a bit regret having to censor myself and having to pick and choose words when using a public forum like this, because this is art in every sense of the word.  It captures your attention, your imagination, and instills certain feels, albeit uncomfortable (pronouncing that how you wish) in the audience.  Whether that's a glowing happy place or some sort of repulsion or anything in between, a two inch rubber mini-figure did that, and that sort of powerful witchcraft is pretty much reserved to art and powerful ex-girlfriend witchcraft.

Dripping and dropping Saturday, June 25th, (exact time to be announced) you'll have first whack at this guy's release that includes the pictured figure, a free mystery figure, a signed card, and a sticker.  Check out the link below!

Oh, it's also Glow In The Dark.  Did I forget to mention that?

06/24 JUST BEFORE MIDNIGHT UPDATE

Electric Monarchy's Glow In The Dark B*kkake mini-figure is now live at the ArtWh*re webstore!  And just a reminder, this figure comes with a ton of extras listed above.  The whole package drips down your mailbox for 25 clams, which includes the free shipping.  Clink the link above or enter through the one right here.

Grossed Out 8: The Trash That Came Back!

You know what?  Sometimes when things work out for you, you really don't question how.  You just get thrilled and pumped up that certain chains of events happened, regardless of your eternal bad luck.  Such is the way of brand new toy line from Moose Toys, The Grossery Gang!

Does these guys look familiar?  Because they should!  Back from the dead, I would love to welcome the spiritual successor of The Trash Pack back into my life!

A few years ago, Moose Toys made a toy line near and dear to my heart called The Trash Pack.  They were gross little mini-figures portraying all sorts of disgusting things, from rotten foods, germs, bugs, and everything else.  They weren't perfect in the eyes of the keshi elitist side of my reptile brain, but they struck that gross-factor nostalgic itch that also occupied part of my childhood.   Yet, despite my love and a good handful of sets, the series was discontinued.

As the proverbial dumpster lid for The Trash Bag series was being lifted, Moose Toys released a new series called The Shopkins.  They were a cleaner, cuter, re-imagining of the trashies, but unlike the trashies, they were a resounding success.  Everyone went crazy for Shopkins, even despite the fact they were just shopping-themed and left a lot of the wilder themes the trashies explored.

To my knowledge, The Shopkins are still going strong, but their success has reanimated The Trash Pack under a new name and grocery store theme.  We might not be getting the booger-coated seagull anytime soon from The Grossery Gang, but at this point, it's something I am completely fine with.

The Grossery Gang is coming out in all sorts of sets and packages, from slushie drinks to candy bars, potato chip bags, and likely many, many, more.  Hot damn!  If there is a single takeaway about this, is that when it comes to things like this, you really can change the minds of big toy manufacturers with the power of your money.  Even after their demise, if you went out and supported Moose Toys through any of their various mini-figure toy brands, you helped bring the trashies back in the form of The Grossery Gang!

Expect some unboxings and reviews very soon!

MWOTR Teases 3D Prototype of Barker The Referee!

Welcome back to Keshi Drop everyone!  I know it's been a while, but the sweltering summer heat had melted my keyboard and now I finally found the means to communicate with you all directly through the matrix.  Now I only hope I know how to get out.  Actually, the truth is, although a ton of interesting news has been happening, I felt it was a lot of the same and not really interesting enough for me to scream from the tallest mountain.

Onion Fights, in recent news, has been showing off all sorts of new stuff, new molds, and new color variants, but really, you would have gotten the same story from me.  I would have told you how much I love this studio, how gorgeous all their miniatures are, and how they rule the roost in this keshi world.  None of that changes still, but I would have also said how virtually impossible it is to get any of their stuff without a plane ticket to Japan or some serious Ebay kung-fu.  And with that, I looked at all their updates and just said "No, not this time.  Meet us half way.  At least come to a convention in North America.  At least allow those in other countries to enjoy your work by order.  Stop being cowards and act like real galactic wrestlers and do a cross-promotion with Mystical Warriors of The Ring, for example.  America versus Japan.  Put your title on the line, and then I'll say something.  Then I'll say a lot."  And while I'm pumping myself up with the idea of that, I'm going to switch that towards today's news.

Mystical Warriors of the Ring has been on tour, crashing every convention within these summer months, so it's very shocking and exciting to see they have something in the works as well.  Even with their announcer miniature and Talos evolution figure being worked on, it looks like they are not alone.  Coming to your ring to receive a single blow and then fall motionless for minutes on end, Barker the dog referee was teased over social media today, showing off this rather interesting pose.  Is he holding someones hand up in victory or is he hitting the mat for the final three count?  Right now, it's all just speculation, but it's great to see the single-mold characters getting love too.

What do you guys think?  Does this officially chime the coming of MWOTR Wave 3?  And are Onion Fights the biggest cowards in the world for not challenging MWOTR?  Or you know think they just know America is better and will always win?  Let me know by commenting below!

Spy Monkey Creations' Battle Tribes Wave 2 + Contest Details!

There's been some really awesome news coming from the Spy Monkey Creations camp in the last day or so.  For those who remember my 24 Hour Toy Break coverage, Spy Monkey Creations really came out big during that event, and if I didn't actually say it in my write-up, they really stole the show and left as the hottest thing for the reveal of their new Battle Tribes toy line.  And now again, for the last couple days, they have been stealing all the attention over social media.

Released were the details about their Wave 2 drop, as pictured, are the equally attractive translucent and purple.  The purple, in my opinion, is a very nice choice, and if I have my eyes checked out right, really could be close to some Monster In My Pocket colors.

These fantasy battle mini-figures are distant cousins to keshi purity, that's for sure, and that's always been a minor gripe for me.  The multi-part Glyos thing has always been a sword I'm always tripping on, despite how much I really do enjoy Battle Beasts and Mystical Warriors of the Ring: Evolve once I got to hold them.  I don't know.  I really may not have too many reasonable explanations for it.  It really could be illogical stubbornness with some unknown reason to satisfy a nostalgic feeling.  'These weren't the toys I played with when I was younger, so screw 'em!', is the sentence I am hearing my inner child say before I blast him in the face with a Nerf football.

Putting all my keshi zealotry aside, these guys look very attractive and fans have been going into a frenzy over them, and for good reason.  Now, there will soon be two more colors to collect and mix into the collections, later this summer.  And really, this is an independent toy line that's getting a ton of love and support, and that's more than awesome in my opinion.

Spy Monkey Creations is also doing a giveaway contest  Below are the details, taken from their Facebook page.  Please check it out and show some support!

PowerCon Exclusive Slime Green Motuscle Can From Super7!

Hasn't it been a wild and crazy week with all this Ecto Mini nonsense?  Hasn't it been a great and/or terrible time, depending on your point of view?  Well, forget it!  Throw those damned things in the trash!  We're over it now!  That stuff was so 48 hours ago, and I refuse to be bothered about them any longer, not when Super7 dropped this slimy one, all over...  this sentence will never end well.

Some time ago, somewhere between the beginning of time and just this second, Super7 previously announced a pretty attractive rainbow trashcan set for their Masters of the Universe MUSCLE mini-figures.  It was certainly an attractive set.  Pretty enough for any casual collector and insidious enough for any completionist, but you know what?  Forget them too!  Are they out?  I don't know, but if they are, throw them away.  Throw them in the food disposal and grind them into dust.  Go into work the next day with your ground up toy dust and throw it in your boss' face.  Tell him you're finished taking his attitude and you don't need his money anymore, not when all you obviously need is this amazing green slime set!

Maybe they aren't as stellar as I'm making them out to be.  I suppose these guys can fall a few grades when they are revealed to have a half million dollar price tag, but really, that might be it.  This set hits all the SpiderEarth buttons.  Great scale, check.  Translucent neon color, with green being high on that color wheel, check.  Gorgeous packaging, check.  Nostalgia worthy of a high-five, smack! All that's left to investigate are the quality of the sculpts and and the hardness of the material, which has been called into question in prior releases.  People have loved these, but have made mention how soft and wiggly they are, and not really in a good way.

The one catch with these guys, at least at this moment, are that they are a PowerCon 2016 exclusive, so if you're not in the L.A. area on the 20th of May, you might want to consider hitting up your mule sources or start logging into your Ebay accounts.

Sadly, I'll be spiraling out in the middle of outer space, or somewhere equally distant from California, around that time, so sadly I'll be looking to get them some other way.  But, hey, it hasn't been announced yet, but maybe Super7 is going to run another one of their world-famous convention death trap games for their collectible goodies.  Maybe so, so I can go in and grab my share when everyone else has fallen into spike pits or eaten by bears, or whatever nonsense stupid pop-up store they invent this time.

Spooked Out: Ghostbusters Ecto Minis Three Packs!

Hey, everyone!  Welcome back to Keshi Drop!  I know it's been some time away from all this.  Maybe it's been an anxious summer feeling or a slow keshi season, but rest assured, I am far from closing the book here.  Just figure with any sort of big news, I'll be here to state my opinions on the matter, and that's exactly what we're looking at today!

A new Ghostbusters movie is scheduled to be hitting theaters later this year and there has been all sorts of torches and pitchforks about it.  I don't know and I'll be honest, I try to avoid trailers and all that, but the one I did see wasn't catastrophic, at least in my opinion.  Crazy Uncle SpiderEarth here might be the only person looking forward to the movie, but what else is new than my team of me, myself, and I?  But let's circumvent all that, I'm not really speaking about the movie or trailers today.  Keshi Drop is looking at the new Ghostbusters Ecto Minis that has been catching everyone's attention.

Mattel, the makers of the line, has made one good move out of the gate.  Ecto Minis are broken into two releases: the classic movie cast and the new movie cast coming out later.  If you prefer the classic line, your minis will be in the black blind bags and packaging.  If you're into the new movie, you'll be hunting for the slimy green stuff instead.  And because I am the only person in the world that does things a certain way, I went green and grabbed all four different three packs, effectively collecting the entire new movie set excluding chases and glow-in-the-dark variants.

I wasn't sure I wanted to dive into so many at first, but these mini-figures seemed to be flying off shelves, so I figured grabbing the complete set of the commons seemed to be the best way to satisfy both urges.  Then, I shredded the packages at home and gave them all a closer look and feel.

What did I think?

If you want the spoiler alert version, I have to give these a thumbs down.  You see, the ghosts were the main attraction here, and any keshi collector remembers the classic 80's Ghostbuster action figures coming with those awesome ghost min-figures will find these are nowhere close to that.  In fact, believe it or not, these ghost are hard transparent plastic with a glow-in-the-dark stomach or something.  They left a cheap hollow feel in my hand, with only arms, antennae, and other small appendages in a solid transparent rubber.  So close, yet completely missing it in every regard.  You can see that these could have easily been keshi-like with glow guts, but something tragic happened along the way.  A huge disappointment.

The mini-figures of the Busters are okay, but that's it.  They are certainly closer to the keshi elitist benchmark, but maybe only in solid rubber material.  Doused in paint and given minor articulation, these should not be the brightest part of the packs, but are.

At the end of the day, Mattel drops the ball, possibly working a glow gimmick or toy function too hard and at the sake of the general integrity of the figure, but it's not all that bad.  Bootleggers exist in markets where big companies fail to provide, so at least these attractive and fun sculpts fall into their hands.

Last Zectron's Tug O' War Oil Spill Variant Drop!

Hey, I'll believe good things also happen in threes if one more keshi gets released tomorrow!

Coming off the heels of yesterday's surprise drops, The Last Zectron has just released the newest variant to his widely coveted Tug O' War mini-figure.  This sexy beast is dark blue and carries ever so slight black marbling, which gives a clue to why it's call the Oil Spill Edition.

These guys go fast, sometimes in just mere moments, so head over the web-store right now and grab them while you can!  If you're reading this days after the post, there's a good chance they are already sunken back deep under the sea.

April '16 OTMFG Slime Green BrainWaves + Kale Mini Gwin Drop!

Talk about a pleasant surprise!

I know I am a little late to the take on this one, but I don't even care.  One thing I really hoped would kick back into action this year was October Toys' monthly drops, and right now, on sale at their web-store, we have these two minty mini-figures.  Welcome back!

Making a return to the scene is the Mini Gwin and this solid green kale variant.  Now he's got his matching color to the classic Brocotal, and maybe fills that Angry Birds or parrot them in your collection.

The real star in this drop is that slimy green BrainWave!  Wow, look at this one!  You have to pick this guy up just to see how the colors and lights travel through his body in different angles, and you gotta' love how different the color appears in different body areas.  If you're hooked to taking mini-figure pictures outside, like I am during the summer, this guy sure does seem perfect for that.

And you know what, like always, these guys are a steal at two flippers a piece, so quick reading this and...

24 Hour Toy Break Updates From Internet Loser, SpiderEarth!

Hello, everyone!  I hope you're all ready!  Tomorrow, April 1st, starting at 5pm PST (8pm EST for me) the awesome toy marathon called 24 Hour Toy Break will be on it's 2016 voyage.  I hope we all have our coffees, energy drinks, and refrigerators full of sugary soda, plus we get some really awesome news and maybe some secret releases here and there.  In fact, there is really no clue what's going to happen.  All you can do is watch and find out, but I'll do my part to help as well!

I luckily have the time away from work to watch it all, but I imagine others won't be so lucky.  Heck, maybe some will succumb to a quick nap and miss a couple hours, like I did last year.  To help out, I will do my very best to be there watching and maybe in the chat room the entire time, and if I get any big news or interesting info, I'll update this exact post here with an EST time stamp.  That way, whether you're watching it with me or showing up late or catching up on some lost time, I'll do my best to keep all Keshi Drop readers in the know.

http://www.toybreak.com/

[April 1st - 6:50pm EST]

Hey, everyone!  Here's the first of what I hope is many updates on the 24 Hour Toy Break event happening in just a couple hours through tomorrow!  It seems even before it started, a top secret Kickstarter project went live!  It's a pretty awesome Toy Break 10th Anniversary Coin.  It sure its collectible and all that, but there's also a cool feature for all those collectors who can't decide whether to keep a toy in the box or to take it out and play with it.  Now you can give the coin a flip and let fate decide it.  Even sillier, test it out on that super rare Two Face action figure you still have mint in it's packaging in the closet.

You can snag one of these guys for just ten clams, but you sadly don't have a lot of time to be on the fence about it.  As I am typing this, only 53 hours remain on the project, but looks very promising at 77% to it's goal already.  So get on it already!  Here's the link!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/georgegaspar/toy-break-coin

[April 1st - 9:00pm EST]

The coin is officially funded, so everyone who tosses in ten tacos will get their own 10th Anniversary flipper.  A stretch goal was announced as well, that will include a protective plastic case, if the project reaches another $600.

[April 2nd - 12:10am EST]

Brian, from Spy Monkey Creations, dropped by the Toy Break couch, and what he showed off was his new Glyos compatible mini-figure line called Battle Tribes!  These guys are very cool, especially if you dig the classic He-Man aesthetic and influence.  While being showed off, these guys were revealed that Battle Tribes: Weapons & Warriors Wave 1 will go on sale at 6:00pm PST, Friday April 8th, 2016 in the Spy Monkey Creations web-store.

http://www.spymonkeycreations.com/

[April 2nd - 6:00am EST]

After some behind-the-scene technical difficulties with Blogger, I'm back with a little update with the new Battle Tribes coming out April 8th.  Painted ones will be $15, but a limited run of unpainted ones (Hello, keshi fans!) will also be on sale for a super bargain of $10.  Word is there are a smaller run of unpainted ones, so you'll have to act quick on those.

http://www.spymonkeycreations.com/

[April 2nd - 8:00pm EST]

This show is over!  There was a lot of great auctions, jokes, and discussions.  Some of the wildest events were #GIDGATE, the Cheddar Bones meme, and all the ruckus with Tanya and a poor, blushing, George.  There have been many different styles of 24 Hour Toy Break, and this year was a more relaxed celebration of their 10th anniversary.  Although there wasn't a ton of crazy, door-busting, releases or news, there were a few interesting things of note.  Squid Kids Ink and Linda Panda both have new projects and possible Kickstarters in the pipe.  There was almost a leaked announcement from October Toys, but it was held off, so expect some big news in the weeks to come.

Alright, guys!  Thanks so much for stopping by and reading my stuff.  Time for some sleep.
